Over the years, I have become more and more disappointed with the Alien franchise. While the original idea was spectacular, and the first two movies superb, it has just failed to do anything for me at a steadily increasing rate as each movie is released. Sure, there were some cool things in #4, and the dark ending of #6 was good, but outside of that, I have no use for the franchise anymore. Then I heard about this book, and was intrigued. My favorite movie of the batch is Aliens, and the Colonial Marines were my favorite aspect of that movie, so an entire collection dedicated to them? Hell yes! And overall, I enjoyed it thoroughly. There were some shining standouts in this book, and a few that sit somewhere down there with the latest movies. Thankfully, most fell in the median range of enjoyable, fun, action packed, and a complete thrill ride. Well done. This book is a reassurance to me that I can like the Alien franchise, despite Ridley Scott.
This is some high grade sci-fi horror. Military sci-fi horror to be precise. Short, brutal stories about grunts squashing bugs, and bugs pulverizing grunts. I think you already know whether you're a fan of this type of fiction, so I'm just here to tell you that this is worth the very modest asking price.
This book was a lot more fun than i expected. I don't mean the stories are humorous, I mean it was a lot more fun to revisit the Colonial Marines and spend time in the Alien story universe than I expected. If you like the second movie, you'll like this book. You'll get some back story on the characters from the film, meet a lot of new characters, and discover all the ways the xenomorph's adapt to different host. I'm 85% of the way through the book and there hasn't been a bad story yet.
The stories in this book were all dark stories of a humanity that is not always at the top of the food chain, and is being reminded of that in irregular instances. These stories give us snapshots into characters lives at their most harrowing moments where they have to make impossible choices or push themselves to their limits. This is not a collection of happy endings. I heartily recommend this book to any fan of science fiction.
I love books with short stories in them and I can honestly say I enjoyed all the stories in this book. Sometimes with a group of short stories, some disappoint but not here. If you are intrigued by future warriors fighting alien monsters, this book is for you. It has great stories, horrifying monsters the characters have to fight and interesting characters. Already looking forward to another book like this one!
I read a lot of anthologies. This is one of the best. Each story is unique and well written. Highly recommended
I enjoyed reading the e-book Alien Bug Hunt. I was expecting the book to be more similar to the movies. For the most part, the stories are distant relatives of the movies. I liked some of the stories and hated others. In some cases, the alien creatures won, and in others, the Colonial Marines won. For the most part, the Colonial Marines that took part in any action were on their own to win and survive or lose and die.
This is a very unique and interesting idea for this book. Way to put a lot of short stories about the colonial marines in different ways, not just against xenomorphs. Not to mention giving the reader some interesting backgrounds to some of the characters to Aliens. It helps you to see some of the characters in a different light.
