From School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2—A small knight learns to fight his foes with a good story rather than a sword. Leo is a small knight who is fond of adventures—at least the ones found in books. His parents hope that the challenge of fighting a dragon with his new shield and sword will turn him into a brave, dragon-fighting knight. Leo sets off on his quest with a supply of good books, but along the way, he meets foes looking for fights. Thankfully, Leo is quick with a story to calm the angry beasts—even a dangerous dragon likes a good tale. There are delightful spreads done in acrylic ink and watercolor that pair beautifully with the rhyming stanzas. The characters' voices are distinct and beg to be read aloud. VERDICT A recommended purchase for all collections and perfect for storytime, bedtime, or anytime.—Karen Ginman, BookOps: The New York Public Library and Brooklyn Public Library

Review

"The Storybook Knight is not only about the power of books, but a book that teaches children to stand up for what they love. The funny and heartwarming illustrations full of details are the perfect addition to the meaningful story." - The Reading Castle"In an homage to reading that also recalls The Story of Ferdinand, the power of words is extolled in rhyme... A sweet tale about the power of story, just right for nascent fans of Redwall." - Kirkus"I absolutely LOVED this story. It has such a wonderful message about how books and stories can help us make friends and even avoid violence. It's a powerful message also to parents who want to push their children to do something they want vs. what the child really loves. Aside from these valuable lessons, The Storybook Knight was very entertaining to read. " - The Plot Bunny"Helen Docherty's breezy rhyming and Thomas Docherty's lighthearted, imaginative cartooning make this a sweet, fresh take on the typical reading-is-fun tale, while also slyly nodding to our culture of personal celebrity." - Publishers Weekly"This book is perfect for bookworm parents to read to their children...I loved the messages - both solving problems without fighting and the joy of reading. " - Mom's Radius"I absolutely LOVE this book for children. First of all, the message. The message! The moral of the story here is this: you do not need to fight to get what you want accomplished, you can use your brain. " - The Book Collective"Though very different, "The Storybook Knight" reminds me a lot of "Giraffe's Can't Dance." There's a timeless quality to it that will appeal to parents and children alike." - Cracking the Cover"My smile kept getting bigger and bigger as I read this beautifully written and illustrated tale. This is a great story to read morning, noon or night!" - YA Book Divas"While it is fun and exciting read the book is mellow enough to enjoy it as a bedtime story." - Vimaneaa"Truly a delightful picture book for both adults and children! My grandson loves this one for the rhyming that lends itself to some fantastic reading aloud. " - The Novel Life

This story is in rhyme which makes it fun to read. My 4 year old son enjoys this book and I like reading it to him because it has a good message. The illustrations are also good.

Love the author. Love the book. This is as good as Snatchabook, which is really saying something because I LOVE that book. Gorgeous illustrations and beautifully written both in language and story.

Very cute and arrived in great condition. Wrapping it up as a gift for my toddler's classmate this holiday.

Helen and Thomas Docherty have created a must read for your children's book collection. The Story Book Knight takes the reader on a reading adventure highlighting the love of reading! The illustrations are beautiful and the sequential story is a great story telling retell! Love this book!

Love this story. We love Snatchabook, so we were thrilled to find another story by these authors.

We used this book as part of a reading day at a local elementary school. As our group is the Knights of Columbus I liked the title. But the story was a perfect fit for Read Across America Day.

My sons and my favorite book. It’s in the main arsenal. Since he was two and still now at 3 1/2. I highly recommend it. Great story and art.

Lovely little story that teaches little ones another way to create a positive connection with people who may be different from you.
