Especially recommended for 6-12-yr-old kids with Taiwanese/Chinese background.After realizing how important it is for kids to "see themselves" and read about other kids/people who are "like" them in the books, I began to look books that are highly relatable to my kids. In English books, I found those written (illustrated) by Grace Lin.My kids (10 and 6, a girl and a boy) are only beginning to learn English, so I always read English for them to listen to and also translate for them in Mandarin for them to fully understand. My kids could totally empathize with "Pacy", the heroin, in the book. My kids also see their culture (Taiwanese) represented in the book and actually get to know it better as it is placed against the backdrop of a foreign culture and environment. They also get to imagine what it would be like growing up in a different country.Our experience in reading Grace Lin's books is amazing.
His teachers read the first of the series aloud, and he came home talking about the main characters. We read this book by kindle, enjoyed the drawings and autobiographical vignettes embedded in the story.
My 7-year-old daughter loved the book. Grace Lin is one of her favorite authors. She can't wait to read the two other Pacy Lin books.

Anything that Grace Lin writes is golden. You and your kids will not be disappointed. She is a wonderful kids writer and really captures the essence and confusion of young childhood.
My granddaughter loved this. all the Pacy novels are great
